Why buy new software?
My current software is difficult, but gets things done...
Do one of these sound familiar?
- "Even though there are better tools out there, what we have works okay."
- "What we have is like an old car. Gets the job done, but it isn't pretty"
- "The pain we experienced switching 15 years ago is something I never want to experience again. It can't possibly be easier now."
- "The devil you know is better than the one you don't, even though we are on the bad end of a pitchfork and my provider has me over a barrel."
Software has a useful life, it is not fine wine
Many software companies, that have systems based on IBM iSeries or AS/400 computer systems using RPG programming languages, are looking at ways to modernize those legacy applications. IBM and a host of other vendors are hawking screen-scrapers to those software companies that take old green-screen code and convert it into mouse-driven applications.
Some of them use ad campaigns with terms like "preserve the valuable application intellect that was designed specifically for your company." They say things like "Don't lose the logic you've developed, so keep your old code's logic and modernize the user-interface with easy-to-use tools."
Seldom do you hear any of them point out that the 15 (or 20) year-old code and logic was designed for use with the computers available 25 years ago. None of the 20 year-old code takes advantage of the technologies available today. Most of those old legacy applications were batch oriented and designed to use as few computer resources as possible ...because 20 years ago the computer's processing power was very expensive and had very limited power when compared to the technology and cpu power of today's computers.
Many of the legacy software vendors use conversion tools ...and end-up with code lacking any improvement in functionality, looking almost exactly like the old green-screen ...except a different color. Those companies are simply polishing an old tool and not giving you any new value. It is less expensive for a software company to simply white-wash the old code rather than replace and rewrite the systems.
How critical is your business information?
Has your software provider left you at a competitive disadvantage. Your competitors are looking for ways to beat you and one of the best ways is to have the best tools that give them timley intelligence to everyone in the orginazation. Progressive companies know, having timely accurate and verifiable information, in the right hands at the right time, is critical to modern business practices.
Rutherford's eoStar system is different than those old legacy systems. It was designed from scratch using the latest software development tools and modern software approaches available. It is the design that leads to software that flexible over time and circumstances.

Vendor problems got you down?
When was the last time your vendors support people answered your call within a few rings of the phone? Is their "gold level" support mean they call you back within 10 minutes after you leave a message? Ironic as it may seem, the modern 21st century computing era relies more and more on the critical people link than ever before.
We are a partner in the success of customers using our eoStar software. We take this responsibility with great honor and provide world-class support.
