eoStar Directions for 2012
What to expect for the upcoming year
2011 was an exciting year for Rutherford & Associates. We added several employees to our staff with more to come. Additionally, a major facility expansion to meet the needs of our new amped up staff is set to break ground in the spring. We met with many of you in Las Vegas at the NBWA show last October. We were delighted to get your feedback and demonstrate new features face-to-face. Most recently, our dedication to offering the best RAS solution possible was rewarded by Coca-Cola’s selection of eoStar as the preferred platform for their U.S. independent bottlers. Going forward, we’ve got a lot planned for eoStar in the next year. Here is what to look out for in 2012:
- The 2012 user forum is coming up and is set for August 15-16th. We look forward to helping you discover the latest features, meet other members of the eoStar family, and learn more about the direction of the platform. The great turnout at our last user conference made it a resounding success, and we look forward to seeing you again!
- Our iOS applications (iPad and iPhone) are only a few weeks away from entering the beta testing phase. We look forward to making these available to all of you and gathering your feedback!
- To ensure compatibility with new eoStar releases, make sure to upgrade to IIS7 & SQL 2008 if you haven’t already. Call 877.477.9977 and a support tech will provide upgrade information.
President, Rutherford & Associates
Introduced to customers November of 2011, VoicePick technology is an add-on designed to make your pickers’ lives a whole lot easier. It’s a faster and more accurate method of picking, and it’s available now!
Earlier in the year, several of our customers expressed interest in automated voice technology, so we went to work on developing a picking tool that would increase efficiency and reduce human error. As an added bonus, VoicePick also has the ability to track and record picking statistics in real time.
Using VoicePick, pickers are able to pick up to 3 pallets at a time. Layer picking is also supported. There are 2 different methods of interacting with VoicePick to choose from—pickers are able to speak back into a microphone or for louder warehouses, they may scan barcodes that represent certain responses.

Upcoming FREE Web Training
Watch for it this month!
Rutherford & Associates is pleased to announce a new, free LiveMeeting web training for eoStar customers. This training session will cover multiple aspects of General Ledger and will be presented by a technician.
The 1-hour seminar will cover key areas of General Ledger in eoStar, including adjustments, groups, rule sets, sources, and batches. The technician will also answer frequently asked questions.
Rutherford & Associates will be discontinuing support for SQL 2005 and IIS 6 in the next version of eoStar. Make sure to upgrade to SQL 2008 and IIS 7.
Catching up with…
An eoStar customer since 2009, Anderson Distributing is a family-owned beverage distributor serving south Michigan for over 50 years. They specialize in imported wine and beer, and serve the Jackson, Michigan area, offering 3,000 items to retailers in their territories. They just finished a solid year, with sales up and warehouse expansion under way.
The Anderson family is passionate about beer, wine, and community. They have become a well-known presence in Jackson and take part in many local events whether it be funding a cancer research charity or sponsoring a free-of-charge bus to transport New Year’s Eve celebrators to cut down on drunk driving.
Six months ago, Steve Anderson Jr. got in touch with JTV, Jackson’s local television station, and created “Sipping and Tipping with the Andersons,” a bi-weekly program that discusses matching food and wine pairings, hosted by the Anderson family. It has garnered quite a following, with some 80,000 viewers tuning in for new episodes. Anderson Distributing has some very knowledgeable employees on staff, and they love getting the opportunity to spread the word about enjoying fine beers and wines.
Most recently, the Anderson family, along with wine guru Rick Collett, teamed up with Food Circus, hosted by The Next Food Network Star’s Adrien Sharp. Together, they filmed an episode dedicated to ringing in the New Year with some delicious food and beer/wine pairings. Check it out here!

Suggested IIS Settings
…for larger companies
Click here for step-by-step instructions on altering IIS settings, which increases the number of handhelds able to sync to a web service at the same time.
These settings are recommended for larger companies that want to optimize sync times.
Angie Gifford, Sales
I am one of the sales associates here at Rutherford. I joined the team a little over a year ago and have been happily working remotely from Baltimore ever since. This is my 23rd year in the industry, and I use my years of experience and relationships with the intent of growing our company to its fullest potential.
I enjoy the success we bring to the partnerships we create. My main goal is to convert a business prospect into a partner, and I find great strength in knowing that I whole-heartedly back the product and people I represent. My position involves a great deal of networking and establishing business relationships, and my main goal is to simply spread the word about eoStar and make people in the industry aware of what we have to offer.
My favorite aspect of this position is the interaction I have with prospects. We design our demos to specifically cater to each prospective customer. While they only catch a glimpse of what eoStar is all about, most people are immediately captivated and that is really exciting to be part of.
When I’m not working, I enjoy traveling to my daughter’s lacrosse games at Penn State. This time of year we enjoy football Sundays at my house (Go Ravens!) and stay close with our families. My husband has a Snap-On Tool franchise, which keeps us both busy on the weekends.
